Zikmund is a London NERC DTP funded student focusing on environmental monitoring of freshwater snails that take part in transmission of Schistosomiasis and other parasitic trematodes. He is based at the Parasites and Vectors division at the Natural History Museum, where he is supervised by Dr Bonnie Webster and co-supervised by Dr Julia Day, UCL. Through a combination of traditional and novel methods, such as eDNA and metabarcoding, he aims to investigate the diversity and spatial ecology of intermediate host snails and their trematodes in their endemic environments, specifically in Lake Albert, Uganda.
