David works in the fields of parasitology, immunology and molecular biology/genetics. He has a primary degree in Microbiology, a Master’s degree in Applied Microbiology and several publications in the field of leishmaniasis.

Before starting the PhD program at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine he was awarded a research fellowship at the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical in Lisbon, Portugal, focused on the role of neutrophils in the establishment of canine leishmaniosis. He was also involved in projects studying new synthetic antileishmanial drugs, the role of the regulatory immune response in dogs with leishmaniasis and the genomic alterations in Leishmania infantum resistant to drugs.
