Enhanced School Health Initiative (ESHI)

ESHI is  4 year pilot programme (2013-2016)  that combines the school health and nutrition interventions of improved water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); school-based deworming; and school feeding across 30 schools in southern Ethiopia.  PCD, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute will identify best practices and the findings will be used to shape the design and implementation of future large scale SHN interventions.

The pilot includes a longitudinal survey to investigate the practices of school feeding implementation and the efficiency of integrating SHN approaches. Annual surveys will observe changes in the knowledge, attitudes and practices of primary school children with regards to school feeding, educational access and WASH behaviour and changes in parasitic worm intensity and prevalence.
